Terms & conditions

The terms that apply when you buy from our online shop, and when we make, repair or store things for you.

Last updated 21 October 2026 Questions? info@theboatshedwales.co.uk

These terms apply when you buy from the Boatshed Sailmakers online shop, and alongside any quote we give you for sails, canvas work, repairs or storage. Please read them before you order, particularly the sections on cancelling made-to-order items and our responsibility to you.

About us

We’re Boatshed Sailmakers, a sail loft at Sail Loft East, Outer Harbour, Pwllheli, Gwynedd LL53 5AY.

You can contact us by email at info@theboatshedwales.co.uk, by phone on 01758 613266 or by text on 07788 854795. If we need to contact you, we’ll use the details you gave us when you ordered.

Our products

Covers made for your boat

Our model-specific covers are made to our own patterns for the boat named in the product title. Please check the make, model and year before you order. If your boat has been changed from standard, for example with a different console, T-top, aerials, rails or an outboard bracket, call us before you order so we can check the fit or quote for a bespoke cover. We can’t accept responsibility for a poor fit caused by ordering the wrong model, or by a change to your boat you didn’t tell us about.

Colours and materials

Colours on screen are a guide and can look different from the real fabric, and there can be slight differences between batches. If colour matters, ask us and we’ll send a sample where we can. Product photos show a typical finished cover, and small details may differ as we improve our patterns.

Bespoke work

For sails, canvas work and covers made to your own measurements, we’ll give you a written quote describing what we’ll make. These terms apply alongside that quote, and if the two disagree, the quote applies.

Ordering

When you place an order, we’ll email you an order confirmation. The contract between us starts when we send that email.

We may have to turn down an order, for example if we can’t make it, the price shown was wrong, or we can’t deliver to your address. If that happens we’ll tell you straight away and refund you in full.

If we find a mistake in the price of something you’ve ordered, we’ll contact you before we start work so you can choose to go ahead at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

Prices and payment

Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). The total you pay, including any delivery charge, is shown at checkout before you pay.

We take payment in full when you order. You can pay by debit or credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Amazon Pay, or spread the cost with Klarna or Clearpay, subject to their own terms and checks.

Making your order

Most of our covers are made to order in our Pwllheli loft, so lead times change with the season. If you need your order by a particular date, call us for a current lead time before you order. We’ll keep you updated and let you know as soon as possible if anything changes.

If we’re delayed by something outside our control, we’ll tell you and do what we can to keep the delay short. If the delay is likely to be significant, you can cancel and we’ll refund anything you’ve paid for items you haven’t received.

Delivery

We send orders by tracked courier and will email you when your order is on its way. The courier may need someone to sign for larger parcels.

Orders sent outside the UK

Orders to the EU, the Channel Islands and other destinations outside the UK are sent DAP (delivered at place). That means import VAT, any customs duty (up to 12% on boat covers) and the courier’s clearance fee aren’t included in our price. You pay them, usually to the courier before delivery. If you refuse to pay them and the parcel comes back to us, we’ll refund the price of your order minus the cost of sending it out and back.

When the goods become yours

Your order is our responsibility until it’s delivered to the address you gave us, or until you collect it. It becomes yours once we’ve received payment in full.

Please make sure your delivery address is correct. If delivery fails because the address was wrong or incomplete, we may charge you the cost of sending it again.

Collection

You can collect your order free of charge from our loft in Pwllheli. Collection is by arrangement only: we’ll contact you when your order is ready to agree a day and time, so please don’t travel until we’ve confirmed. Bring your order number with you.

If you haven’t collected your order within 30 days of us telling you it’s ready, we’ll get in touch to agree what happens next. This may include delivering it to you at your cost.

Cancelling your order

Made-to-order covers and bespoke items

Most items in our shop are made to order for a specific boat, in a fabric and colour chosen for your order. Items made to your specification or personalised for you aren’t covered by the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

We know plans change, so you can cancel a made-to-order item free of charge at any time before we start making it. Contact us as soon as possible and we’ll refund you in full. Once we’ve started cutting and making your order, it can’t be cancelled.

Ready-made items

For items we hold in stock and don’t make to order, such as fixings and fastenings, you can change your mind and cancel within 14 days of the day you receive them, without giving a reason.

  • To cancel, tell us by email, phone or post before the 14 days are up.
  • Send the items back within 14 days of telling us. Unless they’re faulty, you pay the cost of returning them.
  • We’ll refund the price and the standard delivery charge you paid within 14 days of getting the items back, or of you showing us proof you’ve sent them, using the payment method you used to order.
  • We may reduce your refund if the items have been used or handled more than you’d need to check them, as you would in a shop.

If something’s wrong

Everything we sell must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. This applies to made-to-order and bespoke items too. If something is faulty, damaged or not as described:

  • within 30 days of delivery, you can reject it for a full refund;
  • within six months, we’ll repair or replace it, and if that doesn’t put things right you can have a refund or a price reduction;
  • after six months, you may still be entitled to a repair, replacement or partial refund, but you may need to show the fault was there when you received it.

Please contact us as soon as you notice a problem, with your order number and photos. If an item arrives damaged, it helps if you tell us within 48 hours so we can claim from the courier, but this doesn’t affect your legal rights. We’ll pay reasonable costs for returning faulty items, and may ask to see the item first, either in photos or at our loft.

Covers are working kit and need looking after. Normal wear and tear, fading from sunlight over time, damage from accidents or misuse, chafe against fittings, mould from storing a cover wet, and alterations made by someone else aren’t faults.

Repairs, servicing and storage

When you bring us sails, covers or a boat, we’ll agree the work and price with you first. Quotes are valid for 30 days unless we say otherwise. If we find something that needs extra work, we’ll contact you before we do it.

We’ll carry out all work with reasonable care and skill. Payment is due when the work is finished, and we may keep hold of your items until it’s been paid.

We’ll tell you when your work is ready to collect. If items haven’t been collected within 90 days of that, and you haven’t replied to our reminders, we may charge for storage. As a last resort, and only after giving you written notice as the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 requires, we may sell or dispose of items that are still uncollected. If we sell them, we’ll pay you what’s left after deducting what you owe us.

Boat storage is agreed separately. We take reasonable care of boats and equipment in our care, but we’re not responsible for loss or damage we didn’t cause, such as storm damage. Please keep your boat insured while it’s with us, and remove valuables.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We’re not responsible for loss or damage that wasn’t foreseeable.

We don’t exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for breaking your legal rights relating to the goods and services we provide.

If you’re a consumer, we only supply products for domestic and private use. We’re not responsible for business losses, such as lost profit or lost charter income.

Business customers

If you’re buying for a business, the consumer rights described in Cancelling your order and If something’s wrong don’t apply to you. Instead, we’ll repair or replace a faulty item, or refund its price. Our total liability to you for any order is limited to the price you paid for it, and we’re not liable for loss of profit, business, revenue or goodwill, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited.

Other important terms

  • Events outside our control: we’re not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather or supplier and courier failures. We’ll tell you as soon as possible, and you can cancel and get a refund for anything you haven’t received.
  • Your information: we use your personal information as described in our privacy policy.
  • Changes to these terms: we may update these terms from time to time. The terms in place when you placed your order apply to that order.
  • Other people: this contract is between you and us. No one else has any rights to enforce it.
  • If part of these terms is invalid: the rest still applies.
  • Enforcing these terms: if we don’t insist straight away that you do something you’re required to do, we can still insist later.
